As we head into this new year, we all look for ways that we can connect with those most special in our lives. Here in Vegas, we are so lucky to have Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas where we have some of the best choices for a romantic meal with loved ones.
The hubby and I first visited one of our favorite Italian seafood restaurants and raw bar spots in the city, Mercato Della Pescheria located in the center of St. Mark’s Square. Whether you want a romantic candlelit table for two or a private dining room for a large event, this authentic Italian restaurant has the option for you. They certainly did for our romantic visit which happened to fall on the evening of our 9th wedding anniversary.
They started by sitting us in a prime spot with a beautiful view of the skyline and puffy clouds in St. Mark’s Square; adjacent to the canal and right in front of the festive Christmas tree.
We started by ordering one of the hubbies’ favorites, the Italian Meatballs (made from pork and beef, slowly braised in San Marzano tomato sauce, and finished with Grana Padano). We then ordered one of my favorite appetizers, the Prosciutto Board (made with prosciutto, Grana Padano, marinated vegetables, imported olives, and grilled bread). Next was the Salmon tartar (Scottish salmon, speck, green apples, Calabrian aioli citrus, and olive oil). We couldn’t pass on one of their famous Wood Fired Pizzas (topped with truffle cream, gorgonzola and mozzarella, grilled artichokes, spinach, and roasted tomatoes). I ordered for my entree, the Linguini Frutti Di Mare (with jumbo shrimp, mussels, clams, and calamari in a rich seafood broth). The hubby ordered one of his favorites, the Chicken Parmigiana (Free Range chicken breast, mozzarella, on a bed of freshly made fettuccine and roasted tomato sauce).
Poor scheduling on our part meant we had to leave without dessert, but one of our favorites from the Mercato dessert menu, which we have had twice before is the Torta Al Cioccolato, which is a nine-layered chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting!
The combination of the view, the atmosphere of the painted ceilings, and Italian architecture make you feel like you are in the romantic center of Venice. The combination makes this one of our go-to spots for a romantic date night at Grand Canal Shoppes.
My second choice for a romantic dinner at our favorite Las Vegas strip destination is a recently found gem for us, but somewhere we are certain to return as the combination of food, atmosphere and service earns this Las Vegas eatery the moniker of “America’s Steakhouse.”
Smith & Wollensky is widely known as one of the premier steakhouses anywhere and a true must-visit for any lover of upscale steakhouses. Found in the heart of The Shoppes, they feature a two-story tavern, complete with an art deco-inspired 18-seat bar and their own on-site butcher room where they dry-age their own USDA steaks. Smith & Wollensky partners with Double R Ranch of the Pacific Northwest, known for being sustainably minded and one of the highest quality providers of beef in the U.S. They do have private rooms that can accommodate large groups, but what had us interested was the second-story window seats looking out onto the sprawling walkways of Grand Canal Shoppes and Venice-inspired views.
When preparing for our romantic date to continue our anniversary and holiday celebrations, we were excited to hear about the American Wine & Wagyu experience they were offering for a limited time. Smith & Wollensky has partnered with five world-class Napa Valley Wineries to carefully curate the perfect wine with Snake River Farms American Wagyu to provide diners with a pairing experience found nowhere else. With the wine by the glass experience, you will be treated to unique pairings that bring out the flavors in both the beef and wines.
During your visit, your server will explain each selected cut and explain how they have selected the pairing and allow you time to not only taste the blendings but learn about each cut and vintage to know why the flavors compliment each other.
I highly recommend you try out this option while it is available, as it will provide you with a one-of-a-kind experience to elevate your dining experience. Click here for more details about the limited-time delicacy.
While we were there, we started our meal with an item from the appetizer menu called the Angry Shrimp (crispy battered shrimp, spicy lobster butter sauce).
We then tried the American Wagyu Carpaccio (SRF Wagyu tenderloin, arugula, EVOO, parmesan, grilled ciabatta).
Knowing that our time and stomachs were limited, we decided to skip the wide selection of salads and sides and treat ourselves to some amazing selections of Wagyu beef.
Our first selection was the Manhattan Cut Strip (9 oz., gold grade Wagyu, cremini mushroom sugo). This was perfectly cooked and it can not be overstated, but it literally did melt on our mouths. It was unlike any other cut of beef I have had. The perfect level of marbling and charred perfectly on the outside.
We then were treated to the Wagyu Filet Mignon (9 oz., black grade Wagyu, roasted shallots, asparagus, marrow butter). Once again, the preparation was perfect. The perfect degree of red in the middle and it too was as tender a cut as I have even had.
It is important to mention, that with each cut of meat that was brought for us, our server took the time to also serve the specific wine that was chosen to compliment the cut. He explained how each vintage was selected and what made it unique and the best choice for the specific cut of meat. This elevated the food to a true epicurean experience, and not just a great dinner. It is a real experience that any wine and steak lover should experience.
Along with our steaks, we chose to select the Truffled Mac & Cheese, Roasted Brussel Sprouts (caramelized shallots, applewood smoked bacon), and Whipped Potatoes. Everything was a perfect match for the amazing beef we enjoyed.
Lastly, we just couldn’t leave our cozy and romantic table without trying one of their most popular desserts. The Gigantic Chocolate Cake (decadent, ten-layer chocolate layer cake brushed with Bailey’s Irish Cream, chocolate mousse, and covered with ganache) most certainly lived up to its name. Even after all the food, we had eaten, we made a major dent in this delectable piece of cake.
In closing Loves, I hope these recommendations will help you to decide where to spend your next romantic meal while you are in Las Vegas. There are so many amazing places to eat at in The Shoppes, but these two stand out as two of our favorite romantic table destinations for your winter or NYE dining experience. Be sure to tell them I sent you, and don’t forget to leave your comment for me on your thoughts and experiences based upon my recommendations.
See you online Loves!
